Finances at St Ternan’s

In addition to the many ways you can take an active role in the life of the church, we always appreciate your financial donations.  This last year we were humbled by several special memorial gifts, which have helped secure our ability to face some serious building maintenance and continue to finance our ongoing ministries.

Our finances are overseen by our finance committee, this group reports to the Vestry and is convened by the Treasurer. It currently costs us £198.86/day to keep the church open and running. This year we are facing a deficit of almost 33 days’ costs. Your generosity is, therefore, most appreciated.

If you are a regular member of the church, we encourage you to take advantage of Gift Aid.  This benefits you and your claims for charitable donations on your own tax return, and gives the church an additional 25% from HM Revenue and Customs.

There are several ways to give regularly, and to take full advantage of the Gift Aid ‘bump’.

Standing Order

These are two methods whereby an instruction can be given to a Bank or Building Society to make a regular payment to the Gift Aid Bank account. This can be at intervals to suit whoever is making the donations and can be monthly, quarterly or annually. The advantage to the Church of these methods is that the income is known and helps with the forward planning of finances.

Yellow envelopes

These numbered envelopes allow donations to be made on a regular basis without recourse to any further paperwork and is a convenient way of making cash donations.

Blue envelopes

These envelopes can be found in the pews and can be used to make one-off donations. It is necessary to fully complete the information requested on the envelope to use this method of giving.

Open plate

In any of our services you can place cash into the collection plate. We receive some gift aid on all open plate donations of £20 or below.
