Wednesdays: From Psalm 18, Diligam te, Domine
I love you, O Lord my strength, O Lord my stronghold,
my crag and my haven.
My God, my rock in whom I put my trust, my shield,
the horn of my salvation and my refuge; you are worthy of praise.
I called upon the Lord in my distress and cried out to my God for help.
You heard my voice from your heavenly dwelling;
to your ears came my cry of anguish.
You reached down from on high and grasped me;
you drew me out of great waters.
You brought me out into an open place;
you rescued me because you delighted in me.
READING: 1 Corinthians 15: 30–41
And why are we putting ourselves in danger every hour? I die every day! That is as certain, brothers and sisters, as my boasting of you—a boast that I make in Christ Jesus our Lord. If with merely human hopes I fought with wild animals at Ephesus, what would I have gained by it? If the dead are not raised,
‘Let us eat and drink,
for tomorrow we die.’
Do not be deceived:
‘Bad company ruins good morals.’
Come to a sober and right mind, and sin no more; for some people have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
But someone will ask, ‘How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?’ Fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. And as for what you sow, you do not sow the body that is to be, but a bare seed, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. Not all flesh is alike, but there is one flesh for human beings, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. There are both heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one thing, and that of the earthly is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; indeed, star differs from star in glory.

BENEDICTUS
Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel,
for he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty saviour,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all that hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our forebears,
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
You my child shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of all their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

PRAYERS
The power of the risen Christ sets us free from evil’s grip!
Lord, have mercy upon us.
The touch of the risen Christ heals our deepest wounds and sorrow!

WEDNESDAYS:
O Risen Christ, your heart exults and your soul rejoices:
comfort all who are living in sorrow.
Risen Lord, you come to transfigure our being:
kindle in us the fire of your love.
Risen Lord, in you our resurrection has already begun on this earth:

Risen Lord, you come to fill our hearts with peace:

Risen Lord, your Spirit burns away sadness in us:

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.

Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,

COLLECTS
WEDNESDAYS: Risen Christ, when we have the simple desire to welcome your love, little by little a flame is kindled in the depths of our being. Fuelled by the Holy Spirit, this flame of love may be quite faint at first. The amazing thing is that it keeps on burning. And when we realise that you love us, the trust of faith becomes our own song. Amen
Almighty God, who, through your Son, Jesus Christ, have overcome death and opened the gates of eternal life: grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of his resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.
God most holy, we give you thanks for bringing us out of the shadow of night into the light of morning; and we ask you for the joy of spending this day in your service, so that when evening comes, we may once more give you thanks, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.
The Lord bless us and preserve us from all evil; and bring us to life eternal. Amen.
